Rain and Wind Pound City

LIBERTY, September 13, 2008 - Power was out in Downtown Liberty around midnight on Saturday when these pictures were taken.

According to the National Weather Service the eye of Hurricane Ike was approaching Galveston at this time.

The streets were littered with small branches and limbs and winds stripped trees of loose material.

According to the Police Department, power outages were scattered across the city as transformers blew due to high winds. The outages were not widespread.

The First Liberty National Bank appeared to be operating on their generator keeping lights operating on their property at Sam Houston and Main Street.

The city was being pounded with sheets of blowing rain.
