Major Accident on FM 1960 DAYTON, October 12, 2008 - The Department of Public Safety investigated a major accident on FM 1960 that occurred at 8:09 PM on Saturday at CR 607 just west of Dayton.
Investigating DPS Trooper Troy Dyson stated that a Black Dodge Pickup driven by an unknown Hispanic Male was traveling north on CR 607 and disregarded the stop sign at FM 1960.
Witnesses estimated that the pickup was traveling at 50 miles per hour and made no attempt to stop when it reached FM 1960.
The owner of the pickup was the front seat passenger identified as Oscar Lopez age 23 of Dayton, who was not driving because he was intoxicated. He stated that he did not know who was driving his pickup and the driver fled the scene on foot and was not located. Lopez suffered a broken arm and was not wearing a seat belt.
The pickup collided with another black Dodge pickup traveling west on FM 1960. The driver of this pickup was Rodney Fleck age 63 of spring, TX and the passenger was his wife Sandy Fleck. Mr. Fleck suffered possible internal injuries and lacerations, as did his wife. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and the air bags did deploy. All three people were transported to Northeast Medical Center in Houston by two Liberty County EMS ambulances. The driver of Lopez’s pickup will be charged with Disregarding a Stop Sign and possible Vehicular Assault if located. There was no insurance found in the vehicle.
