Officers Apprehend Suspect after Chase from Store

LIBERTY, December 3, 2007 - The City of Liberty Police Department responded to a report of a theft at the Family Dollar Store in Liberty around 7:00 PM on Monday.

According to Officer Aaron Venegas, managers in the Family Dollar Store observed a suspicious man in the store and were watching him as he exited the store, noticing a large bulge under his clothing.

They followed the man out of the store and the man ran south along N. Main Street with the store manager in pursuit.

Several units responded and located the man on Grand Street east of Main and took him into custody.

Officers searched the area near where the man was apprehended and located the items allegedly stolen from the store described as articles of clothing including women’s panties.

Taken into custody was John Johnson age 27 of Liberty.

According to Officer Venegas, Johnson was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and charged with Class C Theft and giving a False Report to Police.

Johnson was transported to the Liberty County Jail.
