Arlan Foster Announces Candidacy for State Rep. Dist 18

LIBERTY, December 5, 2007 - Arlan Foster, 55, has a long family history in Texas. Born in Pasadena, Texas, Arlan settled in Liberty County in 1994.

Arlan was educated in the Pasadena Independent School District, Chapman Collage and San Jacinto College. Arlan knows that being the voice for State District 18 is about representing Texas values.

A military veteran, he joined the U.S. Navy in February 1972 and served four years, including three tours in Viet Nam with the U.S. amphibious forces. He received the Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry.

Arlan Foster is the older of two sons born to B.H. and June Foster. His brother, Steve, is the President of Houston Wire Works in South Houston, Texas. As a teenager, Arlan mowed lawns, sold Christmas cards door-to-door, distributed newspapers off a bicycle and was a shoe salesman at the Nation Brand Shoes store in Pasadena. He has worked construction by permit out of Ironworkers Local 84, Pipefitters Local 211 and “turnarounds” as a boilermaker/pipe fitter for Austin Industrial, AJ Mundy Company, Brown & Root and other contractors after the republicans crippled the Building Trades Unions during the Reagan years. A former peace officer, Arlan Foster is now employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He is also the President of the Correctional Employees Union, AFSCME Council 7, and is this states’ member of the AFSCME Corrections United, Congressional Steering Committee in Washington D.C.

Arlan’s wife, Carolyn, is a Lead Process Designer for Jacobs Engineering in Houston. She and Arlan are raising a grandson, John Walker, 13, an honor roll student of the Dayton Independent School District.

Arlan is running for State Representative for District 18 with one priority in mind – to serve the people who live, work, and raise their families here. Arlan knows that service is not about politics, media pundits and power plays. He will put his constituents first. “I know the struggles of the people of East Texas; I live them,” says Foster. “I’m a working man.”

“The Trans Texas Corridor is not about roads; it’s about revenue,” says Arlan Foster, “and I will absolutely oppose it.” He favors giving Texans the right to state wide initiative, refferendem and recall. “Prison overcrowding must be reduced to avoid the federal intervention that we have seen in the past.” He opposes the state abdicating its sovereign duty to private industry. “Public safety and government responsibility can not be pitted against Wall Street!” He supports protecting our borders against those who would violate our sovereignty, including terrorists and drug cartels.

“I know that adequately funding our kids’ education is paramount,” Arlan says. “Texas schools are improving, but we have a long way to go.”

As an avid sportsman, Arlan Foster will protect the citizens’ right to own and legally carry firearms. Every elected politician takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. With the ability for the citizens to recall an official; “We The People” can more easily make sure our legislators do just that.
