Gladys Barclay McGowan Celebrates 100 Years

LIBERTY, December 15, 2007 - Gladys Barclay McGowan celebrated her 100th birthday, Friday, December 14th, 2007, at Liberty Health Care in Liberty, Texas, surrounded by family and friends.

The Barclay family first came to America from Scotland in 1620 settling in East New Jersey. The Barclays moved first to North Carolina, where one of her grandfathers was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War and then westward and helped establish the Republic of Texas, settling in what is now Woodville, Tyler County, Texas.

Mrs. McGowan’s father, J. F. Barclay and mother,  Mary Leila Flowers Barclay moved to Dayton around 1920 where he was a farmer, rancher and Deacon in The First Baptist Church.

Daughters, Linda Jamison, Lee Warner, sons-in law, Bob Jamison, Jake Warner and Grand daughter, Gay Dinsmore were on hand to help her celebrate.  Family and friends enjoyed cake, ice cream and punch.  Gladys enjoyed opening packages and birthday cards with a very special card from President and Mrs. Bush.
