Third Week of Decreases — Prices Still Highest Ever
HOUSTON, December 21, 2007 - In Texas, the average dropped a penny this week to $2.85 a gallon — 64 cents higher than last year. The national average is $2.99, the same as last week's average. "Gasoline prices remain at unprecedented levels for this time of year with prices of $3 a gallon or more a common sight across much of the U.S.," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "Despite current gas prices, more than 86 percent of Texas travelers, or nearly 4.5 million, will drive to their holiday destination — an increase of one percent compared to 2006."
The lowest average price on this week's survey is in Houston at $2.81 a gallon, which is a penny below last week. The highest average once again is the Austin-San Marcos area at $2.91 a gallon — slightly more than a penny decrease.
