“Dirty Tricks” EDITORIAL

LIBERTY, April 8, 2006 - This editorial is not an attempt at self-aggrandizement. It’s about the facts.

Over the last few months, evidence of Republican “Dirty Tricks” has surfaced. It is in fact the targets of the “Dirty Tricks” that tell you just what’s happening.

A couple of months ago, Liberty County Clerk Delia Sellers was the victim of a “Dirty Trick.” An obviously false statement was transmitted by e-mail under her name to a third party using her own E-mail address. The content of the e-mail was a threat to the third party who received it. It was recognized as being both a deceitful act and a false statement.

Just this week, an obviously false statement was sent by e-mail under the name of Liberty County Republican Party Chairman, Lester Ray Wisegerber. The content of this e-mail was an apology and resignation letter by Wisegerber, which is and was a deceitful act and an obvious hoax.

One e-mail attempts to discredit a distinguished Democratic office holder and the other attempts to discredit the leadership of the Republican Party.

Both of these e-mails as well as a few others received by prominent community leaders are currently a matter of a multi-agency investigation that includes the FBI.

These “Dirty Tricks” seem reminiscent of the movie, “All the President’s Men,” a fact-based movie about the historical account of the Watergate affair, starring actors Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in the lead roles.

As a result of information gathered from the targets of these false statements, it appears that an individual or group of individuals are seeking power, influence and recognition within the Republican Party, and are using these “Dirty Tricks” in some mentally perverted attempted to achieve there goals. It’s largely an internal Republican Party struggle.

Unfortunately, the senders of these e-mails don’t understand how to become recognized. They think they can accomplish their goals through “Dirty Tricks” and seem unable to realize that public recognition comes through accomplishment. Folks that engage in this sort of activity never accomplish anything.

They desperately seek the recognition and attention of the public and at times seek public office. Unfortunately, the juvenile-minded acts in which they engage prove they would have nothing to offer in public service if ever elected. They’re ignorant, incapable people.

If you look closely at the type of folks who play these “Dirty Tricks” on others, they remind you of high school kids engaged in pulling pranks. Their dirty tricks, rather than accomplish their goals, make them insignificant and unfortunately they are not kids. They are adults.

Their craving for attention may the symptoms of a Histrionic Personality disorder. People with this disorder are characterized as; constant attention seekers with a need to be the center of attention all the time, often interrupting others in order to dominant the conversation. They use grandiose language to describe everyday events and seek constant praise. People with this condition also tend to exaggerate friendships and relationships, believing that everyone loves them, and are often manipulative, easily influenced and highly suggestible.

Do, they harm the community? They can. If allowed, they can distract serious, well-meaning individuals from accomplishing the primary goal of serving the needs of our community.

It’s several months until the November election and, in that much time, these folks may likely be exposed and discredited, and we’ll be rid of them.

In the meantime, just ignore these mental midgets and deny them the unnatural cravings for recognition and attention they so desperately seek.
