Driver Arrested with Blood Alcohol over 5 Time the Legal Limit LIBERTY, November 21, 2005 – On November 19, 2005 at 11:35 PM City of Liberty Police Dispatchers received a call warning them of a possible intoxicated motorist on North Main Street near the SH 146 Bypass. The red Ford Explorer continued south on North Main Street sometimes in the northbound lane until it reached Wal-Mart. According to Sgt. Ricky Skarpa of the City of Liberty Police the Explorer turned in the north entrance to Wal-Mart and exited the south entrance traveling south on North Main Street. The vehicle stopped at the read light at Cook Road and then proceeded to make a right turn onto Cook Road from the center turn lane. The vehicle continued down Cook Road traveling from the extreme right side of the road to the extreme left side of the road before it was stopped at the apartment near the entrance to the City Park. The driver was identified as Arthur Haley, age 48 of Liberty. After a field sobriety test Haley was taken into custody and given a Breathalyzer Test. The test results revealed Halley had a blood alcohol level of .41, more than 5 times the legal limit of intoxication. According to Skarpa, after getting the blood alcohol results, he was concerned about Haley’s well being and transported him to the Liberty Dayton Community Hospital. According to Skarpa, blood alcohol levels of .45 can be lethal. Personnel at the hospital told Sgt. Skarpa that this high level of intoxication could be a great concern in inexperience drinkers. However it was not as great a concern in experienced drinkers. Haley was transported to the Liberty County Jail charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Give us your Feedback about this story!
