Major Accident FM 1960 and Waco Street sends 4 to Area Hospitals

DAYTON, November 21, 2005 – The Dayton Police Department investigated a major accident on FM 1960 at Waco Street that occurred at 10:06 PM on Monday.

This intersection has in recent months been improved with the addition of signal lights with a protected left turn signal when the green arrow is on.

Tonight, Rhonda Vaughan age 49 of Beaumont was returning from the airport in Houston in route to Beaumont, when according to Officer Gordon Bean of the Dayton Police Department, a red Plymouth sedan traveling west on FM 1960 attempted a left turn onto Waco Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection sending the silver Honda Pilot into the ditch.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and two Liberty County EMS ambulances units responded to the scene to care for the injured.

The red Plymouth was driven by Devin Lee Williams age 19 of Dayton. There were four juvenile passengers in Williams’ vehicle. Two were transported to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital and 2 were transported to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown all in stable condition.

Air bags in the Plymouth deployed in the accident.

According to Officer Bean, Williams had no drivers license, no insurance and failed to yield right of way while turning left.
