Liberty Municipal Library's Summer Reading Program
LIBERTY, June 9, 2007 - The Humphreys-Burson Theatre was alive and literally “jumping” with excitement Thursday morning as children of all ages filled the auditorium to watch the Houston based Highflyers Jump Rope Team. The team established in the fall of 2000 by coaches Tammy Aleman and David Cazares, consists of boys and girls from first to tenth grade all with various skill levels from the Alief School District. These jumpers demonstrated strength, speed and agility while performing such stunts as the Chinese wheel, freestyle, double dutch and their own version of the Texas Cotton Eyed Joe. The team is currently training for the United States National Jump Rope Championship that will be held in two weeks at Disney World. Two of the team members David Owor and Demitri Briggs appeared in the nationally televised ads for the X-Box 360.

The performance was part of the Liberty Municipal Library’s 2007 Summer Reading Program which got underway Monday June 4th. The program is open for area children infants to students who have just completed seventh grade. There is no cost for the program but each child must have a current library card which is free for anyone within the city limits. The fee for non-Liberty residents is $10 for an individual card and $15 for an entire family good for up to a year.
