Two Arrested in Daisetta

DAISETTA April 13, 2018 ⎯ On Wednesday, 04/11/2018, at approximately 6:48 PM, Daisetta Police Officers Dustin Piassoli and Linda Longoria were patrolling in the 400 Block of Main Street in the City of Daisetta when they observed a suspicious vehicle turn into the Family Dollar parking lot, located at 411 Main Street. The officers recognized the driver of the vehicle to be 25-year-old William Henry Lee Olson of 105 West Pine Street, Daisetta, Texas. The officers were familiar with Olson after having had previous contact with him on Tuesday, 04/03/2018, in regard to an incident involving alleged disorderly conduct, for which Olson was cited. It was also during this disorderly conduct incident that it was learned that Olson did not possess a driver's license. At the time of the first incident, Olson was in the company of a white female whom then identified herself as being 20-year-old Julles Banwinkle, also of 105 West Pine Street in Daisetta.

Upon observing Olson operating a motor vehicle in the 400 Block of Main Street, the officers then contacted Liberty County Sheriff's Office and conducted a search for a driver's license issued to Olson. The officers learned that Olson still had not been issued a driver's license.

Officers Piassoli and Longoria then observed Olson drive the vehicle from the Family Dollar parking lot where the vehicle turned east on East Pine Street. Officer Piassoli followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of East Pine and Texas Street. It was then discovered that the person the officers believed to be white female Julles Banwinkle was a passenger in the vehicle. Officer Piassoli requested Olson to exit the vehicle and step to the rear as Officer Longoria approached the female after Longoria observed the female discarding a lit cigarette onto the ground from the passenger window. As Longoria attempted to speak to the female, Piassoli was in the process of informing Olson that he was being placed under arrest for the offense of operating a motor vehicle upon a roadway without a driver's license. At this time, Olson reportedly informed Officer Piassoli that he wasn't going to be arrested and the female began exiting the vehicle against commands given by Officer Longoria. The female continued to disregard Longoria's directive and exited the vehicle as Olson pulled away from Officer Piassoli as Piassoli was attempting to place Olson in handcuffs. Both Olson, and the female known as Julles Banwinkle, fled westbound, on foot, on East Pine Street toward Main Street as Piassoli and Longoria pursued. The foot pursuit continued across Main Street (FM Hwy 770) and onto West Pine Street, then past 105 West Pine Street (defendant's address) where Olson was apprehended by Officer Longoria directly in front of 113 West Pine. The female was apprehended, by Officer Piassoli while attempting to enter the back door of the residence located at 115 West Pine. Deputies of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office as well as Liberty County Pct #2 Constable Les Hulsey arrived on scene to assist the officers.

After apprehension, Olson and the female were transported to the Liberty County Jail where they were booked in and released into the custody of the jail staff without further incident. The suspect vehicle was then inventoried and released to Liberty County Towing for safekeeping.

Olson was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with No Driver's License ($500 Bond - Misdemeanor C), Resisting Arrest ($4,000 Bond - Misdemeanor A), Evading Arrest ($4,000 Bond - Misdemeanor A) and faces a pending charge of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration requirements (Felony 3).

During jail booking, it was then discovered that the person whom the officers believed to be Julles Banwinkle was positively identified as being Jewells Marie Vanwinkle. Vanwinkle was charged with littering ($500 Bond - Misdemeanor C), Failure to Identify Giving False/Fictitious Info ($1,500 Bond - Misdemeanor B) and Evading Arrest ($4,000 Bond - Misdemeanor A).

At the time of this release, Olson and Vanwinkle remain in custody at the Liberty County Jail.
